Thinking about joining an online dating site? You're in luck, because this is the best time of year to do it.
Research from Match.com has determined the optimal time of the year for online dating down to the minute. If you're wondering when the most people are actively browsing through dating profiles, apparently it's Sunday January 5th at 8:57pm, so set your timers. How's that for science?
Match.com says the holidays are a peak dating season. The site sees a 25-30% increase in traffic between December 25th and February 14th. (I'm guessing it has something to do with all the exposure to family and happy couples during this time, not to mention the increase in break-ups.) They are offering a three-day free date pass to help motivate you to try it.
- For both men and women, profiles with full body photos received over 200% more messages than those without. So don't be afraid to show off your curves or short stature - you will get more response than if you try to hide.
- Spend less time describing what you're looking for, and more time describing yourself. If you mention the sports you play, an instrument you've learned, or even a book that you enjoyed reading you'll go a lot further than going negative on the men or women you used to date.
- Spelling counts. And don't use text speak or incorrect grammar in your profiles either, it turns people off. Emoticons are tricky too - try to avoid them. There is a caveat to this: if you include laughing acronyms (LMFAO, LOL) your response rate will increase anywhere from 46-193%.
