January 4: Launchpad hosts ‘Makaylapalooza’

On January 4, Albuquerque’s own Launchpad hosts “Makaylapalooza,” a benefit show for Makayla Trodgen. This event features the following bands: Ballistic Batz, The Horned God, Illumina, Sorry Guero!, Friend 2 Foe, Shit Happens Inc., Banish the Omen, In the End, Fade the Sun, and Ancient Truth. Doors for this 21+ show are scheduled to open at 5 p.m., with the first band taking the stage at 5:30 p.m. Entry is only $5 but is subject to change at the door.

Albuquerque’s The Horned God play Celtic-inspired stoner rock. Who is the Horned God? The son, brother, lover, and consort of the Lady.

Albuquerque’s Illumina play metal. The band’s latest full-length studio CD is titled The Black Guardian.

According to the band, Sorry Guero! is what happens "when three Mexicans jam with a cowboy." The band describes its sound as American death groove.

Hailing from Espanola and San Juan, Friend 2 Foe play a mix of traditional heavy metal and nu-metal.

Around since 2001, Albuquerque’s Sh*t Happens Inc. play rock. The band’s new CD release is titled 11 Year Itch.

Albuquerque’s Banish the Omen play modern metal. From the band: “We’re about playing from the heart and making music that we want to hear; the soundtrack of our lives.”

Formed in 2006 in Taos, New Mexico, In the End play progressive rock and metal. This four-piece band has released its debut CD, titled On Angel’s Wings, which provides a ride through intense, hard-hitting rhythms, psychedelic flourish, and an evocative voice.

Albuquerque’s Fade the Sun play alternative metal and rock. The band contains members of two previous bands, Diverside and Kudzumind. They are currently working on their debut full-length studio CD.

Albuquerque’s Ancient Truth play a mix of metal, jazz, and blues. Check out the band’s vibes at ReverbNation.

Around since 1997, Albuquerque’s Launchpad has played host to bands of numerous genres, including punk, indie rock, and metal. The Launchpad is located on 618 Central Avenue Southwest, which is between 6th and 7th streets.
