“Ribera Del Duero is a large region that frankly is one that really needs to be broken up due to the diversity of terroirs within this zone. Even though it is Tempranillo and not ridiculously far from Rioja, the wines couldn’t be more different. Separated by the Sierra de la Demanda mountain range, Rioja is distinctly Atlantic in its profile while Ribera del Duero is full-on, flamboyant Mediterranean sizzle.
”A few years back we stumbled across this relatively young Ribera Del Duero Bodega and were instantly impressed with their fresh, lively best-buy Joven Cuvée which has been featured in our 6 for 60 samplers. Of course they do take things upward and today we are featuring the estate's outstanding Crianza which will show you all what this estate is really about! Whereas the Joven is unoaked, the100% Tempranillo Crianza sees oak-aging and is quite a bit more serious, and a hell of a deal for 17 bucks! Full-on aromas and flavors of blackberry, balsamic, vanilla and earthy spices are ample, expansive and chock full of character and depth. Hearty and deep, this is a wine to have with a fat Carlton Farms grilled pork chop slathered in fennel and thyme. Drink over the next 5 years.”

Kris Alexander of Vinum Wine will be pouring selections from Oregon, Washington, France and Spain:
Mirth Chardonnay Columbia Valley 2012 $10.99

Flavors of golden delicious apples, Meyer lemon and just a hint of ripe tropical fruit marry together beautifully while a balanced acidity gives it a bright clean finish.
Montinore Borealis Willamette Valley 2012 $13.99
The aroma practically covers the full fruit spectrum with notes of peach, yellow apple, pineapple and with bright citrus popping out, accented with whiffs of cut hay and fresh flowers. On the palate it starts with a soft, slightly sweet expression of ripe fruit of peach and pear with a crisp acid balance and citrus zing, which evolves to a delicious long, crisp finish of grapefruit and lime. 36% Muller-Thurgau, 30% Riesling, 20% Gewurztraminer, 14% Pinot Gris. Tastes very much like an Alsatian white blend. Best white I've tasted from Montinore in a long time.
Montinore Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2012 $17.99
The nose is complex with aromas of cherry, blackberry, dried fruit, dried flowers, cedar, lilac, clove, anise and caramel. The bold palate is ripe with black cherries, black plums, vanilla, tar, smoke, bittersweet chocolate and pie spice which is balanced beautifully by bright acid, all within well-structured tannins.
Buisson Redon Bordeaux 2010 $9.99
Made from a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. It has red fruit and cherry notes on the nose, followed by an intense palate with elegant soft tannins. A softer style of Bordeaux made to be drunk young. Chateau Mayne Viel is a family business belonging to the Reze family dating back to the 17th century.
Bodegas Riojanas Crianza 2010 $9.99
The winery was founded in 1890, 35 years before the Rioja D.O. was established. Their Crianza is intense, dark-cherry red; bright. Very pronounced aromas; fruity, with outstanding notes of spices and new wood. Robust in the mouth, with a vinous personality. 80% Tempranillo, 15% Mazuelo, 5% Graciano.
Lenore Syrah 2011 $14.99
Sourced from several vineyards throughout the Yakima Valley and the Horse Heaven Hills, the 2012 Lenore Syrah shows the very opulent and balanced with its fruit forward attack and rounded, rich mid-palate texture. Aging in predominately neutral French oak which maintains the bright berry and savory aromatics of this wild, gamey varietal.
