On January 26, Albuquerque’s own Launchpad hosts a battle of the bands. This event’s warriors are as follows: Mechannibalism, Gnarly Slur, Beyond My Dreams, Holocaustic, Ilion, Questionable Fate, Modus Operandi, Zealous Grooves, Shadow Remain, Destroy to Recreate, Matt Morgan, Genocide, and 3 Weeks Later. Doors for this all-ages show are scheduled to open at 4 p.m., with the first band taking the stage at 4:15 p.m. Entry is $8 in advance and $10 day of show but is subject to change at the door.
Rio Rancho’s Mechannibalism play a combination of death and thrash metal.
Albuquerque’s Gnarly Slur play experi-MENTAL music that combines hard rock, heavy metal, and industrial. The band’s debut CD, Animal Dance, was rooted more in industrial but touched facets of rock and metal. Their second CD, Rough Offense, has a more metallic base driven by heavier riffs and dropped tuning, as well as fewer keyboards.
Albuquerque’s Beyond My Dreams play metalcore. The band members are all about having a good time and playing heavy music.
Albuquerque’s Holocaustic play blackened thrash metal.
Formed in 2013, Albuquerque’s Ilion play a mix of hard rock and heavy metal.
Albuquerque’s Questionable Fate play melodic metalcore. This is what the band says regarding their live performances: “We work hard at what we do, and we play even harder. That is what you can expect to see when you see us live.”

Formed in 2008, Albuquerque’s Zealous Grooves play a mix of rock, funk, and blues.
Hailing from Thoreau, New Mexico, Shadow Remain are an independent Native American band that play hard rock and heavy metal. The band has released a self-titled debut album, which is available at www.digstation.com.
Formed in early 2010, Rio Rancho’s Destroy to Recreate play alternative metal with punk influences. The band’s name reflects its goal of overcoming obstacles and challenges, as well as keeping an ever-evolving band together. Check out their latest CD D.I.R.T. on cdbaby.

Around since 1997, Albuquerque’s Launchpad has played host to bands of numerous genres, including punk, indie rock, and metal. The Launchpad is located on 618 Central Avenue Southwest, which is between 6th and 7th streets.
