Are you wondering what to have for dinner to tonight? Since today has something to celebrate, here is a suggestion.

January 12 is Curried Chicken Day.

What is curried chicken?

Curried chicken is a popular dish in Asia, the United Kingdom, and the Caribbean. The word "curry" is the way the chicken is cooked. Curry comes from word “kari,” which means “stir-fried.” Curry is also the seasoning that is used on the chicken.

Of course, the main ingredients in this dish are chicken and curry.

Curry powder, along with an array of other spices including masala powder, saffron, and ginger are mixed to form a sauce to blend in with the chicken.

While we usually associate curried chicken with a hot Indian dish served over rice, there are many other recipes that call for both key ingredients.

In England, curried chicken salad is called Coronation Chicken. That's because Constance Spry and Rosemary Hume created the dish for Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation banquet in 1953. It has been a popular sandwich filling ever since.
