Listed below is Part 1 of a two part report of concerts occurring within the coming week in New England.
Janis Ian - Friday, 4/8 thru Thursday, 4/14
When singer/songwriter Janis Ian released her most successful single and Grammy Award winning record, “At Seventeen”, she was only in her mid-twenties yet already ten years beyond her first recording. She’s still performing today usually in intimate theaters that play best to her soft, introspective style. Starting Friday with an 8PM start at Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River, she performs every other night in New England.
The other three concerts all begin at 7:30PM including on Sunday when Natalia Zukerman opens for her at historic Infinity Music Hall in Norfolk, CT; on Tuesday at Garde Arts Center Theatre in New London, CT; and, on Thursday when Tom Paxton joins her at Spruce Peaks Arts Center in Stowe, VT.

Friday, 4/8
John Sebastian is joined by Paul Rishell and Annie Raines to provide some pop and folk music for patrons of the Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley, MA beginning at 8PM.
The Rebirth Brass Band is a jazz and funk band that will entertain at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH starting at 8PM.
The Nashua Symphony Chorus and Strings performs works of Vivaldi, Whitacre and Mendelssohn at the 8PM concert held at Immaculate Conception Church in Nashua, NH.
When Bela Fleck, Zaker Hussain and Edgar Meyer get together at 8PM at the Jorgensen Centre in Storrs, CT you will hear a variety of world music sounds from bluegrass to classical.
Rhythm & Blues are in store for guests at the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den courtesy of Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes starting at 8PM.
If the sounds and dance of Hawaii interest you, take in Kawa Hula at Crowell Hall on the campus of Wesleyan College in Middletown, CT at 8PM.
Peter Noone and Herman’s Hermits also take the stage at 8PM, in this case at Ridgefield (CT) Playhouse.

Friday, 4/8 and Saturday, 4/9
Kevin Burke and Cal Scott are Irish Folk performers who take the stage at Chandler Music Hall in Randolph, VT at 7:30PM Friday. The next night at the same time and place, two Pop/folk duos--Dala and Madison Violet--will appear.
Beth DeSombre opens for Tracey Grammer for some folk music at Club Passim in Harvard Square on Friday. On Saturday Bruce Molsky brings more of a bluegrass tint to his folk singing. Both shows begin at 8PM.
On the other hand, the Claire Lynch Band is pure bluegrass. On Friday at 8PM they appear at Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield, ME and at 8PM on Saturday they perform at Crossroads Coffeehouse in North Andover, MA.
Jazz artist Joe Sample takes on both Tupelo Music Halls with 8PM starts. The Friday show is in Londonderry, NH and the Saturday one is in White River Junction, VT.
Kenny Chesney brings his band plus Billy Currington and Uncle Kracker to the Mohegan Sun Arena for a show each night beginning at 8PM.
Roger McGuinn has 8PM starts each night also, but in two different Bay State venues. The Friday location is the Center for the Arts in Natick. Saturday he moves west to the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown.

Friday, 4/8 thru Sunday, 4/10
Funk and R&B fans have three chances to take in an Average White Band concert this weekend. On Friday at Showcase Live in Foxboro and on Saturday at Infinity Music Hall in Norfolk the band begins playing at 8PM. On Sunday at Tupelo Hall in White River Junction the start time is 7PM.
What is billed as being the “Harmonica Blowout” is taking place in three venues as well. Mark Hummel will be the featured guest along with other blues band leaders and harmonica players James Montgomery, Jerry Portnoy and Kenny Neal. Again the Friday and Saturday night performances start at 8PM at Infinity Music Hall and Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry respectively. The Sunday show starts at 7PM at Time Out Pub in Rockland, ME.
