A favorite, cozy spot of many in North Phoenix, Janey’s Coffee House is a combination of contemporary cowboy and groovy hipster. Tucked back behind the Big Bronco furniture emporium and next to the landmark Dairy Queen, Janey’s has been serving great coffee, notable IPA’s, and tasty plates since 2010.
When researching Janey’s, I came upon a review that perfectly describes this local business’ success – “Janey's Coffee House is a brilliant invention - make it simple, design it well, and serve it with a smile.” I couldn’t agree more.
The décor is rustic, comprised of wood, concrete and metal. A “bodega” sign which is Spanish for warehouse, hangs prominently from the ceiling along with comfy leather chairs, private booths and a long wooden farm table for patrons to relax. In addition to the outdoor patio which offers an abundant amount of seating, my favorite spot is at the bar. Not only do you have the opportunity to exchange pleasantries with the staff, but you also have a perfect view of a statuesque saguaro situated on the hillside behind the bar viewable through a glass garage door. In the evenings, this saguaro is nicely lit to show off its grandness.
Whether thirsty or hungry, Janey’s has a nice menu of hot and iced coffee drinks, teas and smoothies. To start off your day try a muffin, scone, pastry or bagel. For a heartier meal, breakfast sandwiches and burritos hit the spot. Or if healthier fare is more your style, their signature steel-cut oatmeal topped with your choice of several types of nuts, bananas and dried cranberries.
In the evening, patrons can sample unique wines, Kiltlifter, Kolsch and craft and IPA beers including Hemp Ale, 312, Firestone and Woodchuck. For munchies, try their veggie or meat thin-crust pizza or pub board.
On weekends, Janey has an impressive calendar of live musical groups performing indoors or outdoors with the mountains as a fabulous back-drop. Popular bands like Rocket 88’s, Big Pete Pearson and Teneia Sanders entertain audiences and even get a few to dance.
