Janet Jackson has always fiercely protected her privacy, and she kept the biggest secret for quite some time. In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight on Feb. 25, Janet revealed that she married Qatari billionaire Wissam Al Manna last year,
Amid rumors that Jackson was planning an extravagant wedding to Wissam Al Mana have been “flying fast and furious” for weeks, causing Janet and Wissam to issue their first official statement as a couple:
“The rumors regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true. Last year we were married in a quit, private and beautiful ceremony."
This is not Janet Jackson’s first secret marriage. The youngest Jackson secretly married dancer, songwriter and director Rene Elizondo, Jr. in 1991. It was not until the couple filed for divorce in 2000 that the world found out the couple had been secretly married for nine years.
Janet also was married to singer James DeBarge in 1985, but the marriage was later annulled. Jackson was also romantically linked to Jermaine Dupri, but the couple split in 2009.
Janet Jackson and her new husband decided to forgo lavish wedding gifts to each other. In a statement the newly married couple said:
“Our wedding gifts to one another were contributions to our respective children’s charities. We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy. With love, Wissam and Janet.”
