Janet Evanovich's graphic novel 'Troublemaker' leads off July 2010 mystery series releases

Janet Evanovich likes adventurous heroines. In her Alex Barnaby series, she has created a protagonist who shares Stephanie Plum's attraction to trouble. Metro Girl (2004) and Motor Mouth (2006) began the series, which features Alexandra Barnaby as mechanic and spotter for NASCAR driver Sam Hooker.

Evanovich has chosen to switch to a graphic novel format for Troublemaker, the third book in Alex Barnaby series. Troublemaker is scheduled to be released in the U.S. by Dark Horse Comics on July 22, 2010 as the first volume in a two-part set. Both Janet Evanovich and her daughter, Alex Evanovich, who coauthored this title, will be at the San Diego International Comic-Con on the book's release date to sign copies of their work.

In John Geddes' June 16, 2010 USA Today article, "First look: Evanovich off in new direction with graphic novels," Evanovich revealed that she had intended the first two book in her Alex Barnaby series to be released as graphic novels as well:

The Barnaby books were always intended to be graphic novels," Evanovich says. "For those first two books, it just wasn't the right time. We always saw the story as a graphic novel, though, because of the cars, the characters and the visually striking Miami setting."

In the YouTube video below Janet and Alex Evanovich discuss the writing of Troublemaker. Interspersed with their comments are some of the illustrations Joelle Jones has provided for the novel.

Evanovich has scheduled two other novels for release during 2010. Sizzling Sixteen, the 16th Stephanie Plum book, came out on June 22. Wicked Appetite, the first book in the new "Unmentionables" series to feature Diesel, Stephanie Plum's cohort from the Between the Numbers series, will be released on September 14.

I liked the video too, Jenna. I thought when I first saw it, "They're so alike!" Both have the same wonderful sense of humor.
