Tuesday, Jan. 28 marked electric lady, Janelle Monae's performance for VH1's Super Bowl Blitz at Lehman College in the Bronx. Monae's performance aired live on VH1 as part of the network's six night concert series taking place in all five boroughs of New York including one night in New Jersey.
Monae was second in the six-part series lineup, following rapper J.Cole's stellar performance at Queens College on Monday night. Much like the Queens-native rapper, Monae brought down the house with an electrifying show as she performed a number of her hits such as Electric Lady, Dance Apocalyptic, Q.U.E.E.N, Tightrope, and Primetime.
'The Q.U.E.EN' sported her signature bouffant up-do and classic black and white suit as she thanked the audience for welcoming "this southern girl to New York," she called out. The top of many highlights in the show included the soul singer diving into the audience as confetti descended onto the crowd for what one would call a truly 'epic crowd surf.'
In an age of auto-tune and lip-synching, Janelle Monae provides authentic talent with her high energy, incredible showmanship, and powerhouse voice. It's still a mystery as to why the Grammy's missed the mark with this artist. Better luck next year Janelle, we're rooting for you!
