Shameless casting shocker! Jane Levy, aka Mandy Milkovich, aka Ian Gallagher (Cameron Monaghan)'s "beard," is out at the Showtime drama, currently shooting its second season in Los Angeles.
"They’re just going to recast my character, and the audience is going to have to figure that out on their own," Levy told LA TV Insider Examiner when we caught up with her in at the ABC TCA party in Los Angeles this evening.
Say it ain't so! We love the cool punk chick who keeps Ian's big secret and somehow manages to add a bit more flavor to an already colorful cast of characters.
"To be honest, there’s a lot of makeup; there’s a wig; maybe they can hide that. I’m sad because I love the show, but it couldn’t be worked out," she said simply.
Though Levy seemed kind of "such is life" about the situation, we must point out that we will miss her energy on the Showtime drama. But just like Levy, we are looking forward to her new endeavor, an ABC comedy about a teenage girl whose father fears she is growing up too fast and plucks her from New York City to live in the burbs. Suburgatory shows a fresh-faced Levy as someone of an outsider, thrust into a world in which all the popular kids are catalog cutouts of each other and all of the moms look like The Real Housewives.
"I feel like the challenge of Tessa on the page is that she can come off really snarky, but she loves her dad, and he’s the only person in her family, so she trusts her dad. They’re going to grow together," Levy told of us her new role.
"I really love Jeremy Sisto; he’s a great actor; he’s really easy to work with. I think we’re just on the same page."
The two relate to each others as peers in the pilot, a Gilmore Girls-esque dynamic only with an opposite sex parent/child situation. Often Tessa seems to be the voice of reason, something to which Levy says she can't quite relate but admires nonetheless.
"I was probably more self-conscious than Tessa was; I was probably worried about more things than Tessa. She’s really wise beyond her years, and I respect her for that."
Needless to say, she is sweating having to give up one great job for another! Surburgatory starts filming in Los Angeles this week, and Levy is only looking forward, not back, in terms of her career. Get ready to see a completely new side to her when her sitcom premieres on ABC on September 28th at 8:30pm. And Shameless will return to Showtime soon, but you can also check her out in first season episodes, which are available on iTunes now!
