Jane Fonda and Anne Hathaway supports West Hollywood’s V-day RISE UP event (Photos)

Today on Valentine’s day, the City of West Hollywood hosted a V-day RISE UP event to shed light on stopping violence on women and girls.

The RISE UP event drew hundreds of participants who danced in three flash mobs and heard speeches from Hollywood elite actress and local city council members.

On hand at the event was Jane Fonda, Anne Hathaway, Marisa Tomei, Francis Fisher, One Billion Rising Lindsey Horvath (California Outreach Coordinator), West Hollywood council, Abby Land and John Duran.

Jane Fonda told the crowd, "Nothing like this has ever ever happened in the history of the world, that all around the world 203 countries - people are risings. Steal workers, nuns, bishops, presidents, the head of Austria told his whole country to rise, Queen mother of Bhutan, the Dalai Lama is rising. The diversity is incredible, it just not today but we are asking you, all of us on the V board and who has been apart of this to take a pledge, in the coming year and every year after that you will do at least one thing to stop violence against women & girls. It could look like, if an child tells you that child they have been abused, believe that child and go to the authorities, even if you are reporting your own family. It could mean never, ever, ever voting for a politician who trivializes rape."

Anne Hathaway took the stage and inspired the crowd with saying, "Yesterday we are rising, that tomorrow that rise will turn into a walk, then the day after that that walk is going to turn into a run and pretty soon we are going to look around and before you know it we are going to be flying and we will be rising up into the air and the the world we will look around and we will see change and we will see a better place and we will see a world we all want to live in and we will look down at our children, and they will look up at us and they will ask us 'why did you every have to rise up in the first place?' and that is the world I can not wait to see."
