Jan Finney tops medical suspension list following Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum

Not surprisingly Jan Finney topped the list of medical suspensions by the California State Athletic Commission after being manhandled by Strikeforce Champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos at the Strikeforce/M-1 Global mixed martial arts event Fedor vs. Werdum at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. on Saturday.

Although Finney only lasted a little over one round Santos was able to do enough damage in eight minutes to bench her (no contact!) for a total of 180 days unless a physician clears her for an orbital fracture, and a minimum of 30 days so she can recover from her knockout. In addition, she will have her right and left facial lacerations cleared within 60 days. After that she might just opt for reconstructive surgery since Santos rearranged her face with 141 power punches according to compustats.  (Watch the Cyborg vs. Finney fight video here!)

Four other fighters on the Strikeforce card will have to stay out of the gym and the cage for a while.

Josh Thomson has the second-longest mandatory training and fighting lay-off resulting from his bout against Pat Healy on Saturday at Strikeforce but was luckier than Finney with a no-contact suspension of 180 days for a rib fracture that needs to be cleared by a physician. His pain is certainly sweetened by his submission-win over Healy.

Losing his rematch to Cung Le was certainly a huge disappointment to Scott Smith who will have to stay out of the gym for a total of 60 days (no contact) due to his facial lacerations and TKO-loss. He will have to be cleared by a physician before he can get back on the mat.

Ron Keslar and Gareth Joseph both lost via TKO and will have to spend the next 30 days doing anything but MMA. Moreover, they cannot fight anywhere in the U.S. before Aug. 11 and will need a new physical due to being knocked out.
