For Wednesday, January 9th 2013 LA TV Insider Examiner recommends:

The Middle (ABC, 8 p.m.) – "Life Skills" – Axl (Charlie McDermott) is shocked to discover that he and Sue (Eden Sher) are enrolled in the same Life Skills class. And things only get worse for the Ax-Man when he is assigned to work with his sister on a big class project. Meanwhile Brick's (Atticus Shaffer) school therapist, Dr. Fulton (Dave Foley), tries to teach him how to reach out to his fellow students in order to make some friends; and Frankie (Patricia Heaton) and Mike (Neil Flynn) find themselves dealing with an unreasonable insurance company after they discover a tree branch has fallen and broken the windshield of Frankie's car.

Modern Family (ABC, 9 p.m.) – “New Year’s Eve” – Jay (Ed O’Neill) is so excited, having planned for the whole family to celebrate New Year's together at this great hotel in Palm Springs. However, when the hotel turns out to be less than stellar, everyone starts to branch off to do their own thing, leaving Jay dejected-- that is until he runs into the one and only Billy Dee Williams! Meanwhile back at home, Haley (Sarah Hyland) and Alex (Ariel Winter) watch over the kids, which proves to be quite a challenge.

Suburgatory (ABC, 9:30 p.m.) – “Black Thai” – When Tessa (Jane Levy) and Dalia (Carly Chaikin) get their PSAT results, Dalia receives a new car and Tessa gets ice cream as a reward. Tessa is miffed that Dalia got a car, and becomes obsessed with finding out Dalia's score. The rift between the girls leads to an argument between George (Jeremy Sisto) and Dallas (Cheryl Hines), and the only thing that can help them is an old fashioned hip hop dance off. Meanwhile Noah (Alan Tudyk) and Jill (Gillian Vigman) hire Mr. Wolfe (Rex Lee) to tutor their baby after he's rejected by the finest day care in Chatswin.

Nashville (ABC, 10 p.m.) – "Be Careful of Stones That You Throw" – Rayna (Connie Britton) and Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) are locked for their tour. When Rayna suggests taking her girls with her, she finds that Lamar's (Power Boothe) not above holding her hostage with some long forgotten family secrets. To everyone's surprise Juliette has eloped, though not everyone is celebrating. Deacon (Charles Esten) reconnects with a former flame, and Avery (Jonathan Jackson) follows the advice of a new music producer that puts more space between him, the band, and Scarlett (Clare Bowen).

American Horror Story: Asylum (FX, 10 p.m.) – “Spilt Milk” – Grace (Lizzie Brochere) brings Kit (Evan Peters) devastating news about the aliens’ experiments on his wife. Dr. Thredson (Zachary Quinto) receives an unexpected visitor. The Monsignor (Joseph Fiennes) goes to extreme lengths to silence Jude (Jessica Lange).
