Yippee Ki-Yay! Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is releasing a special Die Hard 25th Anniversary Blu-ray Collection to celebrate the astounding milestone of one of the greatest movie characters -- Bruce Willis as the tough-as-nails cop John McClane. The 5-disc set is the ultimate tribute to the Die Hard franchise and includes all four films (Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Die Hard: With a Vengeance and Live Free or Die Hard), plus an all-new bonus disc “Decoding Die Hard” with seven featurettes that take a retrospective look at the franchise, McClane’s sidekicks, its formidable villains, action sequences and stunts, the big explosive special effects and its influence on pop culture.
McClane is a chain-smoking, no nonsense, foul-mouthed cop who has trouble with authority, which often gets him in hot water with his superiors. Always in the wrong place at the wrong time, he is the reluctant hero in each film who becomes any criminal’s worst nightmare. Finding himself in the center of explosive trouble, he ends up willing to “die” to serve and protect the innocents and those he love, often with little or no assistance from others. Unfortunately his perseverance has led to more ups and downs in his private life than a roller coaster.
In Die Hard, McClane is pseudo-separated from his wife Holly when he heads from New York to Los Angeles on Christmas Eve to visit her at her new workplace at Nakatomi Plaza. The troubling events that transpire -- where highly organized criminals hold his wife and other workers hostage -- lead to him becoming a hero and successfully rekindling his relationship. Afterward, he moves to Los Angeles and gets promoted from detective to lieutenant when he leaves the NYPD to join the LAPD.
In Die Hard 2, he is meeting his wife at Washington Dulles International Airport on Christmas Eve when terrorists take the airport hostage. Now he has to foil their plot and help his wife’s plane land safely. By Die Hard: With a Vengeance, McClane is now separated from his wife and back in New York. She has custody over their two children, a daughter and a son. He is at a low point in life, suspended from the NYPD and a borderline alcoholic. Nonetheless he gets drawn into the center of danger when a terrorist threatens to blow up multiple locations in the city unless he plays the terrorist’s twisted game.
In Live Free or Die Hard, McClane is back on the force and tasked to escort a hacker into FBI custody. Instead of a simple routine job, he finds himself fighting cyber terrorists who are intent on shutting down the entire country. His estranged daughter Lucy gets kidnapped and McClane once again must save the day. In the end, the criminals’ plans are thwarted in the nick of time and father-daughter are on speaking terms again.
And now in the new upcoming film A Good Day to Die Hard, releasing in theaters on February 14, 2013, McClane heads off to Russia to help get his wayward son Jack out of prison. Once there, he discovers that Jack is actually CIA and trying to stop a nuclear weapons heist. Father and son team up using their opposing methods to become heroes and prevent a war.
