For Sunday, January 13th 2013 LA TV Insider Examiner recommends:
Once Upon A Time (ABC, 8 p.m.) – “The Outsider” – Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle) finds an unwilling test subject to see if a spell he has concocted will allow him to cross the border of Storybrooke-- without losing his memory-- and go in search of his son. Belle (Emilie de Ravin) stumbles upon a vengeful Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) in the Storybrooke harbor whose main goal is to eradicate Rumplestiltskin. Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) and David (Josh Dallas) go house hunting in search of a bigger place to live. Meanwhile, in the fairytale land that was, Belle meets Mulan (Jamie Chung) as the two set out to slay a fearsome beast called the Yaoguai, who has been ravaging the land.
Girls (HBO, 9 p.m.) – “It’s About Time” – In the second season premiere, Hannah (Lena Dunham) throws a party with her new roommate and is ready to move in on her romantic life, despite still tending to a needy Adam (Adam Driver). Meanwhile, Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) is in avoidance mode; Marnie (Allison Williams) gets bad news from her boss; and the newlyweds return from their honeymoon.
Shameless (SHO, 9 p.m.) – “El Gran Canon” – It’s almost Easter. 137 days have passed since we’ve last seen the Gallagher’s. Jimmy (Steve Chatswin) has moved into the Gallagher house. Frank (William H. Macy) is missing. Debbie’s (Emma Kenney) worried about him. Everything is status quo, except for the mystery Town Car parked out front. Fiona (Emmy Rossum) struggles to accept the new ‘boring’ Jimmy. She loses her job doing biohazard cleanup and looks into her options with a GED. Not many. She goes to see Meg who offers her the chance to promote her own club night. Fiona accepts and puts the family a thousand dollars in the hole. Frank enlists the help of Mexican coyotes and drug smugglers in order to cross the border. Nando kidnaps Jimmy, making him promise to take proper care of his daughter, Estefania. Lip (Jeremy Allen White) is sentenced to community service after stealing a laser for a robotics contest. Baby Hymie causes Jody (Zach McGowan) and Sheila (Joan Cusack) extreme exhaustion. Kev (Steve Howey) and Veronica (Shanola Hampton) attempt to boost their web traffic by creating ‘master and slave’ porn.
Happy Endings (ABC, 10 p.m.) – "Kickball 2: The Kickening" – The lost season two episode finally airs! Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) convinces everyone to play on the kickball team that her store is sponsoring for the city-wide tournament... Everyone except for Jane (Eliza Coupe), who has defected to another, more winning team. It looks like Alex's team might have a chance, until Dave (Zachary Knighton) keeps freezing up every time it's his turn.
House of Lies (SHO, 10 p.m.) – “Stochasticity” – Marty (Don Cheadle) and the Pod adjust to the “new” Galweather Stearn in the aftermath of a sexual harassment scandal. Interim CEO, Julianne Hofschraeger (Bess Armstrong), needs Marty to live up to his reputation of being a fearless closer. This poses a challenge when Marty consults with Mr. Pincus (Kevin Dobson), a valued client no one in the company knows. Jeannie (Kristen Bell) relives haunting memories from a drunken night out with Marty when she returns to work from a paid leave of absence. Meanwhile at home, Marty struggles to patch things up with Roscoe (Donis Leonard Jr.) since he moved out to live with his mother, Monica (Dawn Oliveri).
