Are you feeling 'irie'? Want to listen several great reggae bands from the Caribbean islands, all in one place? Well, Washington DC, expect a treat with Jammin DC, a free Caribbean music and arts festival. Jammin DC will take place on September 28, 2013 at Freedom Plaza (on 14th and Penn) from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Jammin DC celebrates the culture of 28 Caribbean nations and territories including Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos, and the US Virgin Islands.
The entertainment promises a smorgasbord of reggae talent including Peetah Morgan of Morgan Heritage, Shal Marshall, Super Jigga TC,Tony Roy & Yawd Lynk, Sahel (zouk), Cherish Breedy, Hard Pound Rhythm, the Pan Lara Steel Band, and the Dansez/Dansez Stilt Walkers among others.
Children get a dedicated kid zone where they can get their faces painted, jump in the moon-bounce, watch performances, listen to storytelling, and play games.
A wide variety of Caribbean food will be available. The cultural village will include a fashion show and lots of art, books and crafts to purchase.
