Back in April we were first introduced to multi-talented Graphic Designer and Fine Artist, Jamile (Pronounced Ja-Me-Lee) Hamilton , when she presented “Systematic Confusion 1” through the Artful Licks collective. Guests were blown away by her ability to bring her original photography and sketches to life; a special project that she admits allowed her to push the envelope as more than just a G-Rated artist.
The showcase was a mix of decadent and albeit risqué imagery, coupled with Wine and great music. Who could ask for more? It proved that Hamilton has true star power and the ability to bring art lovers together from all walks of life. Since then, she has continued to hone her craft participating in LIVE art shows at Festivals and is building a creative empire through her Graphic Design company, Ilemaj Design LLC.
Now this weekend, Hamilton has set her sights on the famed Forum Club, located inside the historic Forum Arena in Inglewood, CA. She has partnered with Well Play for its “Wellness through Art Series” to host Part 2 of her Systematic Confusion Art installation, entitled “Smart Phone 100”.
The showcase will feature 100 digital images taken from the years 2007 through 2011, displaying the evolution in digital picture quality over the years--using the Motorola Q and HTC Hero. When asked about the inspiration for “Smart Phone 100”, Hamilton replied, “I just want people to feel empowered and to know that they can take great pictures too, especially if a camera phone is all that they have. You can have your very own mini-gallery. Honestly, it’s about capturing life at every moment and I truly hope guests will enjoy.”
As a lover of many art forms the Fine Artist also has a hidden talent. From 8pm-10pm, Hamilton will engage show attendees by performing LIVE-Art in the form of organic Indian Henna designs. Henna is beautiful and awe-inspiring traditionally reserved for Indian women preparing to marry. This practice has spread to Western states over the last decade and is widely popular at cultural festivals and places like Venice and Santa Monica beach boardwalks.
“I have been doing Henna since 2009 and I love it.” offers Hamilton. “It’s therapeutic and I love the designs. I also want to use this opportunity to educate people on its origin and health concerns from the use of “Black Henna” which is most popular here in the states, but is banned in places like Canada.”
There are so many great elements to enjoy at this event, which will be perfect for the entire family. In keeping with the theme, guests are invited to bring their old cell phones as well. Ocular Fine Art Studios is sponsoring a used cell phone drive to reduce (and eventually eliminate) electronic waste. In return, a tax donation certificate will be given for the value of your phone.
A special raffle will also take place and lucky winners will walk away with some great prizes. Well-Play and Ocular Fine Art would like to thank the following sponsors for their participation.
