In a video interview released yesterday on Huffington Post, British chef Jamie Oliver discussed his ongoing campaign to address the growing obesity crisis in the United States. Near the end of the interview came the best news for meat-free food lovers, though: Jamie Oliver is planning a cookbook of vegetarian and vegan recipes.
The man known as "The Naked Chef" discussed the importance of cooking in an age when everyone has a car and a cell phone, so those items are no longer true luxury items. "If you can cook --and no one else can-- that's a luxury," said Oliver.
To Jamie Oliver, vegetarian cooking has always been integral to healthy eating, even if it's not something that's done every single day. He pointed out that all of his cookbooks have contained generous proportions of vegetarian recipes: "In every single one of my books that I've ever written, 65% or 60% of my books have been vegetarian without even saying it."
"This year we're gonna bundle all of my vegetarian recipes and vegan recipes into one massive book," Oliver announced. Don't expect mundane dishes, though. Jamie Oliver described the plethora of vegetarian recipes he plans to collect as "Beautiful, elegant, delicate, seasonal, brilliant food."
"You don't wanna do purposeful nutloafs," he jokes.
Jamie Oliver's vegetarian cookbook will be the 17th book for the chef, whose previous titles include The Naked Chef, Jamie's Italy and Jamie's Food Revolution: Rediscover How to Cook Simple, Delicious, Affordable Meals.
