After actor Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the highly anticipated film "Fifty Shades of Grey" weeks before production, producers on the movie still need to find a new leading man. On Wednesday, October 16 People.com broke the news that Irish actor Jamie Dornan is one of the frontrunners for the role of Christian Grey.
Hunnam was cast back in August but pulled out of the movie this week due to his television schedule. The film, based on the first book in the popular trilogy by E. L. James is scheduled to begin production late this month and in early November. The Universal Pictures and Focus Features film is expected to arrive in theaters on August 1, 2014.
Dornan is well known for the role of Sheriff Graham Humbert on "Once Upon a Time," the fairytale drama on ABC. Dornan, 31, currently stars on "The Fall," a BBC crime drama which will begin filming season two in January. Dornan also spent many years as a model and musician and owns a record label called Doorstep Records. The actor married actress Amelia Warner in 2013 and the couple expecting their first child next year.
Dakota Johnson, 24, will still play the role of Anastasia Steele and the film will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson. Several other actors are being considered for the role, including "True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgard and Christian Cooke. Fan favorite Matt Bomer was never in the running, according to James.
