Paula Deen may have lost a large chunk of her food empire, but she is far from cowering in a corner. Last year, Paula had a turbulent year as her food empire crumpled at an alarming speed. She lost multiple contracts like Food Network, Smithfield, Kmart and Sears.

It all stemmed when Lisa Jackson filed a lawsuit accusing Paula of being a racist. However it was when Paula's deposition became public that she landed in hot water. She admitted to using a racial slur or 'N-word" years ago, when an African American man pointed a gun to her head.

Even though 2013 was a horrible year, Jamie said that the problems they went through made them a stronger family. Paula has maintained her health and happiness when most people would have been soured for many years.

As Paula and her family shakes off the events of last year, they are predicting that 2014 is going to be a big year for them. According to Jamie, "We are good members of the community and our attitude is to learn from our mistakes and go forward.”
