In an under-reported event, Dr. James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries, and radio talk-show host, Bob Enyart, will have a public debate about Open Theism. The debate is July 8 at the Brown Palace Hotel, in downtown Denver according to the Alpha and Omega website.
Open Theism is the recent resurgence of a pagan idea that the Christian God does not have infinite power to execute his infinite knowledge; that the future is "open" to Him as much as any other sentient creature. The view was popularized by the conversion of the scholar Clark Pinnock from classical Protestantism to Open Theism.
Dr. White is a well-known, long-standing and respected Reformed Baptist who specializes in apologetics. He has publicly debated noted Roman Catholics, Mormons and Arminians.
Dr. White will be defending the traditional view of God as omnipotent (all-powerful) and omniscience (all-knowing). And that the future is fixed and knowable since God is consistent with his own nature.
Bob Enyart is a long-time Denver radio show host and consummate debater at AM 670 KLTT. He is a pastor at Denver Bible Church. And he is a known controversialist, especially focusing on homosexuality and abortion issues.
Bob will defend the Open Theist position, arguing that making God limited in creation makes Him more "free" and accessible to mankind. Open Theists contend that the traditional viewpoint about God is more influenced by Greek philosophy than the Bible.
The vague description of the event at both websites does not describe the details of the debate. It is unknown if questions will be allowed from the audience or if the debaters are required to answer questions from each other.
The debate is at the Brown Palace Hotel, July 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. There is seating for about 100 people on a first-come, first-serve basis.
