Comic Book Legends are returning in a major way. We’ve all witness the return of a “different” Superman, this past year. Prior to Superman, there was the “different” Spiderman, the “dark” batman, the “cool” Iron Man, and the very popular Avengers. Well, now the Avengers are introducing another legend, Ultron, by way of actor James Spader.
Ultron is an infamous villain that was first introduced during the 1960’s. Ultron was a massive, robotic supervillain that originally appeared as an unnamed cameo in Marvel Comics. Although Ultron’s debut was an unnamed cameo, his role became legendary. 40 years later, Ultron was ranked number 23, amongst comic books’ greatest villains of all time, by IGN. With such an impressive accolade, it was only right that Ultron get his biggest debut on the “big screen”.
Not only is it only right, it also makes sense to introduce the supervillain to the next generation. Building off the popularity of other comic book legends, Ultron seems to be another success story in the making. Similar to how Iron Man got his payday with 3 movies of his own, Ultron’s debut will be made under the Avengers’ umbrella. Marvel’s The Avengers (released in 2012) grossed over one billion dollars in ticket sales. Not only did The Avengers feature all of the greats from the Marvel comic book era, but it also featured an all-star cast, great special effects, and a great storyline.
The next Marvel’s The Avengers (Age of Ultron) is expected to be released in Spring/Summer of 2015. Although the release date is a little less than two years away, the announcement of James Spader taking on the role as the supervillain is already generating buzz. Many are shocked about Spader’s new role, while others are excited to hear about the next installment of The Avengers. Now, we are left wondering how Spader will fit into the cast of The Avengers. And, will the next installment be able to top the original Avengers (third highest grossing film of all-time)?!
