James Rebhorn died in his home on Friday night according to TMZ. On March 23 it was reported that the "Homeland" actor had been battling skin cancer for more than two decades. The actor's condition recently worsened and he was placed on hospice care. He passed away in his New Jersey home according to his wife, Rebecca.

His wife tells TMZ that Rebhorn insisted on working despite being very ill. You may know him as Carrie's (played by actress Claire Danes) father on "Homeland" or perhaps you might recognize him from his roles in "Meet the Parents" and/or "Independence Day."

James Rebhorn's death comes as a shock to many people who didn't realize that he was sick. His strong work ethic and determination to keep moving his career forward may have been a great cover but underneath he was quite ill. The 65-year-old had many achievements under his belt but his body just couldn't hold out any longer. It seems like he lived a very full life and that he was able to accomplish some great things in the years that he had left.

No word on how Rebhorn's character on "Homeland" will move forward but it is presumed that he will be replaced as Carrie's father will likely have a large role in the new season and beyond.

James Rebhorn is survived by his wife and his two daughters.
