‘Inside the Actors Studio’ host James Lipton stopped by ‘The Rachael Ray Show’ today, February 24th for Ray’s annual Oscar themed show. Ray turns to Lipton each year to get his Oscar picks (to entertain Oscar junkies at large and help her chances in the Oscar pool).
Last year, Lipton correctly pegged Colin Firth as Best Actor winner for his role in ‘The King’s Speech’, which also swept Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. This year, Lipton told Ray he is ‘recusing’ himself from making a Best Actor prediction, as Best Actor Oscar contenders/good friends George Clooney and Brad Pitt recently appeared on 'Inside the Actors Studio' 10 days apart and Lipton now considers them both his friends.
He did tell Rachel Ray that both actors can be described with the same single word; ‘gentlemen’ and one of the two will win for Best Actor. He added that either ‘The Descendants’ (Clooney’s movie) or ‘Moneyball’ (Pitt’s movie) will win for Best Picture.
Lipton doesn’t think ‘The Artist’ will get Best Picture, but he thinks Berenice Bejo will grab the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. He also predicted Christopher Plummer for Best Supporting Actor (‘New Beginnings’) and Meryl Streep (‘The Iron Lady’) for Best Actress.
Flint area Oscar fan Joyce Hamilton of Flint watched Lipton this morning and agrees with 2 choices. She said:
‘Christopher Plummer will definitely get Best Supporting Actor, and George Clooney will get Best Actor. But, I think Octavia Spencer will get Best Supporting Actress and I don’t think Meryl is a lock for Best Actress. Both Viola Davis and Michelle Williams have a strong shot at winning. Personally, I would love to see Melissa McCarthy win for ‘Bridesmaids’. I can’t wait to see what happens.’
