The final episode of NBC’s smash summer hit “America’s Got Talent” aired on Sept. 18 and one of the funniest moments of the night was when buttoned-up Emmy winner James Lipton from “Inside the Actor’s Studio” grilled comedian Taylor Williamson. As always, the finalists were paired with dream celebrities on the final night. At first, it seemed a bit awkward to pair dry-witted Lipton with loose-lipped Williamson, but the end result was one of AGT’s finer moments on Wednesday.
According to Wetpaint.com, Taylor’s road to the finale was a bumpy one. However, he became a true contender on Tuesday night with his spot-on routine and uncanny comedic timing. She Knows wrote that judge Howard Stern believed a comedian could never win “AGT,” but fellow funnyman Howie Mandel has always been in Taylor's corner.
Lipton opened his interview with Williamson by deadpanning, “Good evening. For 19 years, I’ve been face-to-face with some of the greatest stars of our time. My guest tonight is a comedian who has won absolutely no Oscars, no Golden Globes or Emmy Awards. In fact, he doesn’t even have a girlfriend.”
After the hilarious introduction, Lipton went on to grill Williamson with eight questions. When asked about favorite word, Williamson replied, “One Direction.” James was quick to point out that his response was actually two words. The comedian answered that his least favorite word was “Boo." He joked that "an audience of people who don’t enjoy my comedy or even worse, a ghost who’s trying to kill me or even worse, a crowd of ghosts who don’t think I’m funny” all spook him
The funniest part of the strange interview was when Lipton asked about Williamson’s turn-ons. He replied, “boobs” and looked in the direction of Heidi Klum. He added that his turn-off was “balls,” and again looked in Heidi’s direction.
The most honest part of the skit was when Lipton asked Williamson about the noises he loves and those he hates. The funnyman said that he adores laughter and that he hates silence. He added, “Especially when there’s supposed to be laughter.”
The next to last question was “What is your favorite curse word?” Williamson replied “Dick Cheney,” which drew huge laughter from the live audience. Lipton’s final question was, “If Heaven exists, what would you like God to say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?” Not missing a beat, Taylor answered enthusiastically, “Hey, Taylor – congratulations on winning ‘America’s Got Talent!’” To see the entire “AGT” interview, be sure to watch the video above and to the left.
Taylor Williamson did not win “AGT.” Instead, contortionist Kenichi Ebina, who "stole the show," according to NBC News, was crowned the winner of season 8. Williamson was the runner-up, meaning he has a bright future due to the invaluable national exposure of "America's Got Talent."
Ebina joins the ranks of past "AGT" winners Bianca Ryan (season 1), Terry Fator (season 2), Neil E. Boyd (season 3), Kevin Skinner (season 4), Michael Grimm (season 5), and Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. (season 6), and Olate Dogs (season 7).
Although "America's Got Talent" has ended yet another successful run, fans can see their favorite comics, novelty acts, dancers and singers from season eight in cities across the country. The tour begins on October 4 in Jacksonville, Fla. and travels to 30 cities, including Atlanta, Las Vegas, L.A. and more. For the complete schedule and to order tickets, head to Ticket Master.
