James Harness: 'Gold Rush' star dead at 57 with cause of death revealed

James Harness from "Gold Rush" has died at the age of 57. The cause of his death was not reported at first. Speculation began because of earlier back trouble that caused his departure from the show during season two. However, his children have come forward, and they have revealed the cause of his death. TMZ reported on the man's death and its cause on July 3.

James Harness died from the complications of a stroke. His children revealed that the man actually died last week, and he'd suffered a stroke the week before that. This means his death is not new news, but it became news now because of the news reports. The creator of the Discovery channel reality series also went to his Twitter and posted about the man's passing. Todd Hoffman said the following: "RIP James Harness." A spokesperson for the network also confirmed that the man died.

"Gold Rush" premiered in 2010. The series followed a group of miners that traveled from Oregon to Alaska. The group is searching for gold. Since its premiere, the series has traveled to other parts of the world. This includes South America. "Gold Rush" will return to the Discovery Channel this fall with season five. The series is a hit on the network with high viewership on Friday nights. The series has become the number one cable program in its time slot with men.

Harness appeared during the first two seasons of the series as a mechanic, but he was fired from the production during season two. TMZ reported that the man had a problem with painkillers. He was in a car accident that left with him a severe spine injury. When his injury made it difficult for him to show up to work on several occasions, he was let go. Video of his firing is above.

Harness is survived by a son and a daughter. He was divorced before his death. It was reported by All Voices that a funeral for the man is being held on July 5, and he will be buried in Oregon. Fans of the series are going to social media to express their sadness over the man's death. Two fans of the series said the following:

"R.I.P. James Harness good guy and great mechanic indeed,Thoughts and prayers go out to his son Adam and the rest of the family." - @GoldRushFever

"Sending prayers to all of the family and friends of James Harness. Such a nice guy and a super hard worker. One of the best men I know." - @Gunchaser6420

Several stars from the series also went to Twitter to express their sadness over this loss. Greg Remsburg tweeted the following on Thursday:

"Missing my friend James Harness right now. An authentic, caring, kind man that had a big heart. He is pain free now with our Creator."

It is clear that those that knew James Harness are saddened by his death. His death should not have an impact on the show because he left it back in 2012. What do you think? Are you a fan of "Gold Rush" on Discovery Channel? Do you remember James Harness from his time on the series?
