November 2, 2011 -- James Garner hasn't always been the sweet, beloved, actor that fans know today. 'The Notebook' star is revealing his somewhat troubled past in his new memoir titled, 'The Garner Files.'

James Garner's new book should be a good read. The 'Murphy's Romance' actor dishes on punching his abusive step-mother, getting high with Jim Belushi, and how he broke into the entertainment business.

According to She Knows, fans have come to know and love James from his numerous television and movie roles. The actor has an impressive career behind him, and is still working at age 83. "Something funny happens as you get older," writes Garner. "You don't hold back so much."
