James Franco sounds a little bitter about the latest Spider-Man movie franchise. According to a Jan. 30 Perez Hilton report, Franco is insinuating the series was made just to make money.
James played Harry Osborn in the trilogy of “Spider-Man” films made by Sam Raimi beginning in 2002. Tobey Maguire starred as Peter Parker (also known as Spidey himself) and Kirsten Dunst played Mary Jane. “Spider-Man 3” was released in 2007.
The first film in the rebooted series, “The Amazing Spider-Man,” was released in 2012. It focused on Peter Parker’s high school years and stars Andrew Garfield as Parker/Spider-Man. Mary Jane has not yet entered the picture in this adaptation, however, Emma Stone plays Gwen Stacy, the female lead. The sequel is due next year.
Franco said he doesn’t see why the new series was needed and that they didn’t stray much from the original. James Franco added the he’s moved on (though it doesn’t sound like it) and that Sam Raimi has as well. Franco plays Oz in Raimi’s “Oz the Great and Powerful.”
