While this is all still just rumor and speculation, it is spreading like a wild fire.
First a Spanish site called ecartelera.com reported on the rumor and now JustJared and TotalFilm.com are echoing the news as well as blog sites like DeskofBrian.com.
The film, "Akira", would be based on the anime classics by artist Katsuhiro Otomo, which has been described as "cyberpunk manga". Warner Bros. is looking to director Albert Hughes ("Book of Eli") to helm the project which features a leader of a biker gang set to save his friend from a medical experiment.
Some fans are already pessimistic as the action is shifting from Tokyo to Manhattan. Secondly, James Franco is "too old" to play Akira for many fans of the anime comic.
