James Franco remains an open book, except when it comes to his romantic life. The “Child of God” director seems to enjoy teasing the media when it comes to his sexuality, especially when rumors become a bit exaggerated. The latest rumors involve his relationship with actor Scott Haze. On Wednesday, Gawker referenced an article by the New York Times highlighting that Franco now lives with Haze and described the relationship as “seemingly gay”. Franco immediately took to Instagram to poke fun at the story.
The actor didn’t confirm or deny the extent of his relationship with Haze, but addressed the latest rumor by calling out Gawker. He posted a screenshot with the caption, “GAWKER – always getting the cutting edge, homophobic scoop!!! Go see CHILD OF GOD in theaters and see me direct my live-in boyfriend, SCOTT HAZE!!! Love you SCOTT!!!.”
It is hard to tell when Franco is being serious or just joking around, but the Gawker report does highlight points in the New York Times article where it appears Franco and Haze are closer than just friends. The author of the Times article points out that the two met a decade ago and are so close “that describing them merely as friend would be a disservice.” The two are working together on a few projects besides “Child of God,” which means nothing, except that they enjoy each other’s talents, but the fact that they are “sharing an apartment in Brooklyn this summer” suggests they are enjoying other talents according to Gawker.
The two actors don’t deny the intensity of their relationship. Whether they are romantic or not is really their business, but Franco doesn’t seem to mind the speculation and would seemingly have no problem announcing it to the world if he was gay. In an interview with The Daily Beast last year, he addressed gay rumors by saying, “I wish I was gay.” The real message that James Franco is trying to send is how much it shouldn’t matter. In a way, he is telling people it is none of their business by showcasing his business in ambiguous ways.
