This week has been a difficult one for many parents with older children. We're in the midst of a wave of students going off to college. For many reading this, it is their first experience with children taking flight.
This past week has also produced a startling experience; the barbaric slaying of James Foley.
The stories are beginning to emerge on social media and news outlets. This man loved humanity. He put himself in danger , not for the adventure of it, but to share with the rest of the world the travesty of hatred in all its forms. He also showed us why hope should never be abandoned.
Foley was an inspiration to fellow captives and died without expressing any malice to his murderers. He was the picture of grace and I believe that he was an instrument of God.
We can all take lessons from his path in life.
Our hearts ache for his parents especially. This is especially because , for many of us , we are on the eve of our children taking flight on their own paths. The Foley's have spoken publicly with an unusual grace in an amazing effort to bring solace to us!
For those of us who have older children and who are leaving our clutches, let us have faith in our parenthood . They have crafted their own lives now. All we can do is love them without interference and with unconditional love.
Mr. Foley's parents have greatly inspired us with this message
