James D. Baker from Boynton Beach was charged with DUI manslaughter on Wednesday morning. He also has seven other charges in connection with a wrong way car accident that killed a 23-year-old Plantation woman, Christina Duvalsaint, and injured two others back on June 6, 2008.
Police say Baker was drunk and driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Boca Raton on June 6, 2008 when his car crashed head-on into an SUV carrying five people.
Three of the five people that were in the SUV, including Duvalsaint, were ejected from the vehicle as a result of the crash.
Baker was scheduled to plead guilty to the DUI manslaughter charges back in November, but it was reported that he broke out of his house arrest ankle monitor and ran off to Belize in an attempt to escape his charges. He was captured one month later.
Just yesterday, Baker pleaded guilty to one charge of DUI manslaughter and six other DUI counts related to the injuries of the two other passengers in the vehicle and the destruction of property from the car crash. He faces a minimum of four years in prison when he is sentenced on July 1, 2011.
