“Avatar” director James Cameron is used to ordering people around, as is the practice of many Hollywood directors. But in an interview with PBS’s Charlie Rose, Cameron voiced his desire to have his movie, "Avatar" declared Best Picture at the Academy Awards and for the voting members to give the award for Best Director to his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow.
Cameron told Rose that “the best possible outcome” would result in an Academy Award to his team “because I know how hard my team worked and how much they would -- how proud they would be of that accolade.”
The director said that he already has a couple of Oscars so he doesn’t need a Best Director trophy and the Academy ought to give it to Bigelow for “The Hurt Locker.” The science-fiction epic"Avatar" and the war-on-terror film "The Hurt Locker" lead the Oscars with nine nominations each.
Cameron may get his wish on who gets the directing award since “The Hurt Locker” has already been awarded the Producers Guild Award, the Director’s Guild Award and seems poised to take home a BAFTA.
But Cameron’s ex spouse may just sweep both of the categories the “Avatar” director is musing over leaving the "Avatar" director to be content with his existing display of twin Oscar statues.
