They gave Oscar worthy performances in the much lauded civil rights era drama “The Help” a couple of years ago now actresses Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis are re-teaming with director Tate Taylor for the upcoming James Brown biopic “Get on Up” . Deadline reported on Monday, Sept. 30 that Spencer and Davis will play Brown’s aunt and mother respectively in the film.

According to the article Brown was the son of a teen mother who left him in the care of other relatives. The casting of Spencer and Davis comes about a month after it was announced that actor Chadwick Boseman would being playing the late Godfather of Soul. Boseman is coming off a solid performance as the legendary Jackie Robinson in the film “42”.
Davis and Spencer both received Oscar nominations for their work in “The Help” with Spencer who hails from Alabama taking home the golden statue for best supporting actress.
“Get on Up” will start production next month in Mississippi. It is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2014.
