It's a sad day in the entertainment industry. On January 1, CNN reports that James Avery has passed away. According to the report, Avery died in a Los Angeles hospital on New Year's Eve. The cause of death is unknown at this time but it is being reported that Avery had recently undergone surgery for an unknown condition.
Avery was best known as "Uncle Phil" on the 90's megahit "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." He was incredibly active in the entertainment industry, having appeared in many movies, television series and multiple voice overs during his long career. His first acting role being a small, uncredited appearance in 1980's "The Blues Brothers."
Also best-known for his role on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," his television son Alfonso Ribiero tweeted out his grief. "I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away," Riberio tweeted. "He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly."
Like Ribiero, many will miss this very versatile and iconic man. Rest in peace, Uncle Phil.
