Jamaica Bobsled Team's greatest songs

The 2014 Sochi Olympics ended without medals for the Jamaica Bobsled Team. But, wherever they went, they won hearts. They've inspired several songs and a few films. Even the title of the 1993 Disney film, 'Cool Runnings,' loosely based on their Olympic debut comes from the Bunny Wailer song of the same name.

Playful odes to the Jamaica Bobsled Team started back in 1988 when it was first announced that a tropical country, Jamaica, would be sending a bobsled team to the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada.

  1. 'Jamaican Bobsledding Chant' by Worl-A-Girl appeared on the 1993 'Cool Runnings' soundtrack of the film. The song is featured prominently on the Jamaica Bobsleigh Team's official website.
  2. The team's second official song, 'The Bobsled Song' by Sidney Mills & Jon Notar was sponsored by the Jamaican Tourism Board for the 2014 Olympics and racked up 1.5 million views with adorable 8 bit animation. The International Olympic Committee has blocked it for copyright reasons on its original channel. You might be able to find it on an alternative channel, see it while it's up. Check out the video about the video posted here if you missed it.
  3. 'I Can See Clearly' by Jimmy Cliff. It's not so much about the Jamaican Bobsled Team, but the song captures their spirit and became the main single from the film, 'Cool Runnings.'
  4. 'Keep On Pushing' by Skull appears in a Samsung commercial. The storyboard features a young Usain Bolt and Marvin Dixon playing together as children, being inspired to Olympic dreams by the original Jamaica Bobsled Team.
  5. 'Jamaican Bobsled' debuted in 1988 on a parody album by Miami, Florida radio station 97.3 GTR, along with 'Jamaican Bobsled Part II.' The album, 'Yatta, Yatta, Yatta,' was a parody of the Police album, 'Zeyatta Mondatta.' The 97.3 station no longer exists in the modern rock format that produced that album.
  6. 'Jamaica, we have a bobsled team.' Posted by stupidseacucumber over 1 year ago on Youtube.com, the song has no identifying information. It is a cover, of sorts, of Worl-A-Girl's 'Jamaican Bobsled Chant.'
  7. The Roots performed a short snippet of an original untitled song, again riffing on Jamaica's bobsledders as potheads on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.'

Please note, unlike the Jamaican Bobsled Team's portrayal in some of these songs, the team follows International Olympic Committee rules and regulations regarding drug use for Olympic athletes.
