Just like their opponents earlier in the day, Jamaica has released the list of 23 players that will travel to Mexico City to face El Tri at the Azteca Feb. 6, 2013. This is the opening game of the final hexagonal of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualification round. The Reggae Boys travel to Mexico with eight players that are currently inactive.
The three goalkeepers have not seen action since December 2012 when their leagues concluded. There are also five players who are receiving their first call up to the national team, including two youth players; defender Alvas Powell and midfielder Andre Lewis, both 18.
There are four players that stand out for the Reggae Boys, Joel McAnuff, Garath McCleary, Jermaine Beckford, and Theo Robinson.
Jamaica has not fared well at the Azteca. In their last three visits to the two-time World Cup finals host stadium Jamaica was outscored 12-0. The first game was a 2002 WCQ where Mexico won 4-0. In 2003, the Reggae Boys fell 5-0 in a CONCACAF Gold Cup match. For the 2010 South Africa tournament, Jamaica suffered a 3-0 defeat.
In addition to the bad record Jamaica has at the Azteca stadium, Mexico has yet to lose a game in 2014 WCQ. El Tri outscored their opponents 15-2 in the semifinal group stage. One of the goals was an own-goal; the second was an away goal at the Cuscatlán stadium in El Salvador.
