The Bakersfield Jam (12-7) led from start to finish, built a lead of 28 points, and cruised to a 117-114 victory against the Los Angeles D-Fenders (6-9) at the Dignity Health Event Center Friday night. Six Jam players scored in double figures, and were led by Damion James with a team-high 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
The Jam got off to a 32-22 lead entering the second quarter, and continued to move the ball well and extended their lead to 62-46 at halftime. They continued with their momentum in the second half and stretched their lead to 28 points (89-61) with 2:31 left in the third period, and just all but put the game away. They posted 31 assists as a team and had all five starters score in double figures.
Newly assigned Diante Garrett from the Phoenix Suns scored 17 points and had a team-high seven assists off the bench for the Jam. Jerel McNeal added 17, Stephen Dennis started in place of the injured Renaldo Major and had 14, Adam Koch and Brian Butch both finished with 11 in the balanced attack.
Both teams face each other again on Saturday, January 12 in Los Angeles.
