In his return to welterweight, former Strikeforce champion Jake Shields is expected to take on Tyron Woodley this summer.
The news was broken by MMAJunkie.com.
Sources close to the event told MMAJunkie.com that the UFC is looking to have this matchup, most likely UFC 161, in Canada on June 15 at a yet-to-be-determined host city.
Woodley is coming off of a quick KO win over Jay Hieron from earlier this month.
Woodley worked his way up in Strikeforce, winning every single one of his bouts. He got a title shot after eight straight wins in the organization, but lost to Nate Marquardt via KO in his first title fight.
Shields, a one time UFC title contender, won his last fight against middleweight Ed Herman by grappling his way to a decision victory. However, the win was overturned due to a failed drug test, and Shields was fined and suspended for six months.
Prior to entering the UFC, Shields was on a 7 fight win streak in Strikeforce/Elite XC, beating the likes of Paul Daley, Robbie Lawlor and Dan Henderson.
