Jake Powell earns male athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com.

When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.

2014 spring season- Week 3-May 5th -May 10th

Male

Jake Powell- Searsport- baseball- Went 4-4, hit for the cycle, had five RBI, and four runs scored in 18-5 victory over Deer Isle-Stonington. Went 3-3, with two RBI, and two runs scored in 11-0 win over Jonesport-Beals.

Powell is the second student/athlete from Searsport high school to earn athlete of the week honors. Briana Grant captured AOW on February 9th, 2014.

Powell and the Vikings are currently on a three game winning streak

Runner up

Marc Morneault- Stearns- baseball- Had four hits, three RBI, and pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win in 8-6 victory over Penquis.

Other nominations

Jake Gauvin- Bucksport- baseball- Pitched a complete game five hit shutout in 3-0 victory over Orono. Had three hits in 19-0 win over Washington Academy.

Cody Collins- Bangor Christian- baseball- Had three hits, including a home run and a double plus four RBI in 15-1 win over PCHS. Had two hits and three RBI in 9-3 win over Stearns.

Zach Bouchard- Stearns- baseball- Had three hits in 8-6 win over Penquis.

Chandler Crans- Camden Hills- baseball- Pitched a one hitter in 14-0 victory over Belfast.

Connor Graffam- Camden Hills- baseball- Hit two home runs in 14-0 victory over Belfast.

Zach Ramsdell- Nokomis- baseball- Pitched a three hitter and did not allow a walk in 2-0 victory over Erskine. He also had one RBI.

Keenan Collett- Orono- baseball- The freshman had three hits, including a double and a triple. He also scored four runs and had two RBI in 10-5 win over Dexter.
