I originally wrote that Jake Long had agreed to a deal with the St.Louis Rams. Well I was wrong.
After an extended visit with the rams a contract was rumored to have been signed. But instead, Long left St. Louis without a contract. He's now weighting roughly equivalent offers from the Rams and the Dolphins.
The Eagles are also believed to be players in the Jake Long sweepstakes. So we can't rule them out at this time with their history of coming out of nowhere to snag players.
Regardless of where Long lands, he is putting a halt on the market for tackles like Andre Smith and Sebastian Vollmer. All three are represented by CAA, and it's clear that Long will set the contract ceiling for the others.
The first day of free agency, former Saints tackle Jermon Bushrod did a five-year, $35.965 million deal with the Bears. This is surely the range of contact that Long will be looking for with whoever he decides to sign with.
