Jadeveon Clowney is the most athletic defensive specimen to come out of the draft since Julius Peppers. Clowney's high school film may be more impressive than his college film. He will be a nightmare to game plan against. He can rush the passer from anywhere on the defensive line with his speed, playing strength, explosiveness, burst, and wicked sixth sense to find the quarterback and get him down on the ground fast.
Clowney is a solid tackler and does well out in space to get the ball carrier down. He is famously known for making some violent hits on ball carriers and his presence alone is very intimidating. Even though he is very athletically gifted he shows signs of being very technically sound in different areas of his game. He uses a variety of pass rush moves and does not always count on his speed only. He is gifted enough to play with his hands down as a defensive end or standing up as a outside linebacker. The Texans will be able to line him up anywhere in the front seven of their defense and get plenty of value.
The Texans defense has been pretty solid the last couple of years and have been led by defensive end J.J. Watt and middle linebacker Brian Cushing (when healthy). The addition of Clowney will add an element that could make this one of the best pass rushing teams in the NFL. All three players add flexibility and scheme versatility to play in multiple positions. Clowney should have an immediate impact and be in the running for AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year by season end.
