He’s got the moves.
Grooving to “Cha Cha Cha” with dance partner Karina Smirnoff, Jacoby Jones did not disappoint his fans and two of the judges – Carrie Anne Inaba and Bruno Tonioli who both gave his performance a generous score of 7 - when the Baltimore Ravens wide receiver made his debut on “Dancing with the Stars” last night.
Jacoby’s upbeat number - which Carrie Anne described as “a medley of touchdowns” – was highlighted by a short segment depicting the famous Ray Lewis Dance which Jacoby and Karina performed to perfection, a fitting tribute to the Ravens cornerstone.
Jacoby Jones honors Ray Lewis on 'Dancing with the Stars'
A former receiver for the Houston Texans, Jacoby now plays for the Baltimore Ravens - current defending champions of the NFL Super Bowl held last February 13 in New Orleans.
Clad in Ravens colors, black and purple, the comic football star - famed for his record-breaking 108-yard kickoff return that earned him and his Ravens team a touchdown - seemed winded but determined, raw but promising.
On its 16th season, “Dancing with the Stars” premiered last night by featuring 12 competing celebrities and their professional dancing partners.
Competing with Jacoby this season are Disney Channel’s Zendaya, comedians/actors Andy Dick and DL Hughley, Olympic gold medalist and figure skater Dorothy Hamill, country singers Wynona Judd and Kellie Pickler (American Idol alumna), professional boxer Victor Ortiz, TV stars Ingo Rademacher and Lisa Vanderpump, Olympic gold medalist and gymnast Alexandra Raisman (part of the 2012 “Fierce Five”) and The Bachelor star Sean Lowe.
Zendaya and partner Val topped the judges’ votes with a total score of 24 while Jacoby and his partner Karina were not far away with a more-than-decent score of 20.
If Jacoby can work on his footwork and posture - as unimpressed judge Len Goodman pointed out – and get serious with his dancing techniques, the talented football star may just have a shot at sashaying his way far into the competition.
If you’re a Jacoby fan, set your TV recorders, this could be another record breaking “touchdown”.
“Dancing with the Stars” airs on ABC Mondays at 8/7 CT and Tuesdays at 9/9 CT.
