Jacob Rioux captures male athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com

When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.

2013/2014 Winter season- Week 9-January 27th- February 2nd

Male

Jacob Rioux- Van Buren- basketball- Scored 57 points in 74-51 victory over Madawaska. Rioux made 11 three point field goals and eight free throws. The 57 points broke the Van Buren school record for points in a game.

Scored 23 points in 58-39 loss to Fort Kent.

Scored 35 points in 81-22 victory over Greater Houlton Christian.

Rioux is the second student/athlete from Van Buren to earn athlete of the week.

He joins Parise Rossignol, who has earned the honor five times.

Rioux and the Crusaders have a 9-7 record with two games remaining in the regular season.

Runner up

Nate Burns- PCHS- basketball- Scored the first 14 points of the game and finished with 31, including five three pointers in 64-54 win over Central. Scored 14 points in 51-28 victory over PVHS.

Other nominations

Austin Tenney- Narraguagus- basketball- Hit the game winning shot in overtime in 58-56 win over Shead.

Kyle Ham- Central- basketball- Scored 19 points in 62-51 victory over Bucksport. Scored 20 points in 64-54 loss to PCHS.

Andrew Prescott- Central- basketball- Scored 17 points, including going 8-8 from the FT line in 62-51 victory over Bucksport.

Trevor Macomber- Central- Scored 33 points to lead the Central junior varsity team toa victory over Bucksport.

Kacey McVey- Stearns- basketball- Scored 23 points in 78-34 victory over PVHS.

Seth Brown- Stearns- basketball- Scored 19 points in 78-34 victory over PVHS. Scored 11 points in 45-40 loss to Dexter.

Kolby Kendall- Foxcroft- basketball- Scored 17 points, including the game winning basket with eight seconds remaining in 49-48 victory over Dexter. Scored 12 points in 66-46 loss to Old Town.

Ryan Leavitt- Schenck- basketball- Recorded 27 points and nine steals in 78-63 victory over Katahdin. Scored nine points in 54-47 loss to Mattanawcook.

Bailey Spack- Dexter- basketball- Scored 15 points in 47-41 double overtime victory over PCHS. Scored 18 points in 49-48 loss to Foxcroft. Scored 21 points, including going 8-8 from the FT line in 45-40 victory over Stearns.

Trevor Lovely- Winslow- basketball- Recorded 33 points (included his 1000 career Point), five assists, and five rebounds in 85-57 victory over Leavitt. Recorded 24 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in 59-54 victory over Waterville.
