Jacksonville VisionWalk Kick Off draws record crowd; energizes participants

The 6th Annual Jacksonville VisionWalk Kick Off drew in over 100 attendees Saturday at the brunch held at Maggiano's Little Italy, located in the St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville.

Attendees heard presentations from Kim Marlow, director of events with the Foundation Fighting Blindness, and Kimberly Guthrie, a genetic counselor with Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

Marlow outlined the mission of the FFB and the VisionWalk as well as discussed details regarding Walk Day, and Guthrie gave a brief overview on the usefulness of genetic counseling with relation to retinal degenerative diseases.

Marlow also presented the FFB Jacksonville chapter president, Lisa Pleasants, with VisionWalk Strides and Chapter Momentum awards that the chapter earned last year.

The 6th Annual Jacksonville VisionWalk will take place April 26, 2014, at the University of North Florida. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the free 5k walk begins at 9 a.m.
