Durbin Creek Paddle Trail
On Monday, February 6 the Sierra Club's Northeast Florida Group will host a presentation on the massive effort to restore Durbin Creek for paddlers at 6:00 p.m. at the Ponte Vedra Beach Library, 101 Library Road, Ponte Vedra Beach. Eric Bersinger and Josh Woods, founders of the Durbin Creek Wilderness Society, will discuss their project and the future of Durbin Creek. The event is free and snacks will be provided. Meet Florida Master Naturalist Craig O'Neal
Craig O'Neal, whose amazing photographs of area wildlife are often published in the Florida Times-Union will be honored at a wine and cheese reception on Tuesday, February 7 at the Ponte Vedra Beach Library from 4:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. His photographs will be on display there through February 29. The event is free.
Seafood Sustainability
On Wednesday, Feburary 8 from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. you can enjoy a free webinar on seafood sustainability. The webinar is funded by a Florida Sea Grant, and free to participants. The topic will be Blue Crab. These webinars will provide a brief overview of the management, economic value, harvest methods and food safety of Florida's most commercially valuable seafood products. Museum of Science and History
On Saturday, February 11 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. bring your valentine to the Museum of Science and History for a special evening. Bella Luna: Dessert Under the Stars will include a Cosmic Concert, time for stargazing and a walk through the museum, music, sweet treats, beer and wine. Cost is $45/couple or $35/couple for members. Guana Reserve Trail Walk
On Saturday, February 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. join Tom Barry for a 1.5 mile guided walk through the Guana Reserve trails. There is no charge for the tour, but there is a $3.00 fee for parking. Wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes. Reservations required. Call (904) 823-4500 for information.
What Slithers?
On Saturday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. join a Park Ranger at the Ribault Club on Fort George Island Cultural State Park for an interpretive program exploring snakes that are native to Florida and that live at Talbot Islands State Parks. The event is free. Call (904) 251-2320 for more information.
Citrus Harvest Festival
On Saturday, February 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Washington Oaks Gardens State Park just south of Marineland will host the Citrus Harvest Festival. Learn about growing, caring for and cooking with citrus. A Park Ranger will also provide a guided tour of the groves. Flying Dragon Citrus Nursery of Jacksonville will be selling cold-hardy citrus in 3 and 5-gallon containers with all proceeds going to the park. Normal park entry fees apply. Free Nature Movie
Lagoons for Laypeople: Birds, Fish and Plants of Our Lagoons will play every Saturday and Sunday in February at the Guana Reserve Environmental Education Center. Described as "an intimate look at a typical coastal wetland reserve," this 56-minute movie shows what makes lagoons work and why they are important to our environment.
