At Jacksonville Fine Dining Examiner, we frequently post local Jacksonville restaurant events in compiled format. For August and September, we have event announcements, new menus, and more from restaurants like Ovinte, III Forks, Aqua Grill, Roy's, and Bistro Aix. Here's what we we have through the end of August and September:
- Full sized entree items and Wine Spectator aware @ Ovinte: In place of The Original Pancake House now stands what some may consider merely a wine bar. In the past, Ovinte only served small plates and tapas. However, Ovinte recently announced via their Facebook page that they are serving full-sized entrees on their menu to go along with the small plates. The dessert menu has also been expanded to include items like Tres Leches Cake. Of course, Ovinte does focus on their impressive wine selection, which resulted in a recent Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.
- Wine Down Wednesday @ III Forks: One of the top steak restaurants in Jacksonville offers a great way to enjoy their wine and food for a low price. Wine Down Wednesday at III Forks will take place each Wednesday in August from 5pm-7pm. The theme is Taste of Australia and hosted by Sommelier Andy Smith. Five separate Australian wines will be featured, along with hors d'oeuvres by Executive Chef Dylan Hauge hand-passed for your enjoyment. All this for only $15 per person (excluding tax).
- Three course prix-fixe @ Roy's: The Jax Beach Roy's location is currently serving what they call "A journey in flavor inspired by Southeast Asia". The meal features food inspired by The Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore. The three-course meal, can be enjoyed for $36.95 per person. For the first course, diners can enjoy a choice of Papaya and Cucumber Salad (baby greens and peanuts tossed with a sweet chili vinaigrette) or Vegetable Spring Roll (mushrooms, sesame-bibb lettuce with citrus nam pla). The second course consists of a choice of either Seared Shrimp and Lemongrass Confit Chicken (baby carrots, grilled scallions, served with a Thai Coconut Red Curry Sauce) or Grilled Hangar Steak (baby boo chou, fried rice with Red Dragon sauce). For the final course, diners can choose between either the Phillipine Lime Semifreddo (frozen custard, blueberry, pineapple, and coconut tuile) or Roy's Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle (flourless chocolate cake, raspberry coulis, vanilla bean ice cream. We've had the chocolate soufflé at Roy's in the past, and we can emphatically recommend it!
- New lunch menu and live music @ Bistro Aix: This downtown Jax restaurant recently released some exciting new lunch menu items. These include a calamari and kale salad, steak tartare (ravigote sauce, arugula croutons, and a quail egg on top), grilled portabello mushroom sandwich with tomato confit, Boursin cheese, arugula, on Focaccia bread. Bistro Aix is also offering a new dessert called the Praline Cheesecake. This dessert features Mascarpone cheesecake with fresh peaches and an almond praline crust. Lastly, Bar-X, which is the bar portion of Bistro Aix, is featuring live music this weekend. On Friday, Taylor Roberts will perform with Patric McMillian and on Saturday, Mondo Mike & the Poe Boys put on a show.
