Jackson woman dies in two-vehicle crash, police investigating

A Jackson woman died early Thursday afternoon in a fatal crash in north Jackson, according to a news release from the Jackson Police Department.

The release said 65-year-old Jane C. Norvell died from the injuries she sustained in a two-vehicle crash, which occurred at the intersection of North Highland Avenue and Harris Drive.

Police said around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Norvell was driving westbound on Harris Drive in a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier. She was trying to turn left to travel south on North Highland Avenue when the Cavalier was struck on the driver's side by a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix.

The Grand Prix, driven by 55-year-old Sandy Lytle, of Jackson, was traveling north on North Highland in the inside lane when the crash occurred, the release said.

Police said Norvell, who was wearing a seat belt, was rushed to the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, where she died a short time later from her injuries. Lytle, who was not wearing a seat belt, is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses to the crash said Norvell had pulled across the lane of travel leading to the accident.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the crash.
