A Jackson man is facing multiple charges after a search warrant led officers to mushroom plants, marijuana buds and other drugs inside the man’s home Wednesday.
John Ashley Snider, 45, was arrested and charged with manufacture of a schedule I controlled substance, manufacture of marijuana, possession of a schedule I controlled substance with intent to sell or distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to sell or distribute, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance with intent to sell or distribute, possession of salvia divinorum, possession of synthetic cannabinoids and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
Snider is currently being held at the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex, where he awaits arraignment in Jackson City Court, according to a Thursday night news release from the Jackson-Madison County Metro Narcotics Unit.
The release said on Wednesday, investigators from the Metro Narcotics Unit went to Snider’s home on Bridlewood Cove in north Jackson to follow up on a CrimeStoppers tip. Officers made contact with Snider at the front door and were refused entry. During the initial contact, officers observed the presence of marijuana and obtained a search warrant for the premises.
During the search of the residence, officers discovered the following: 73 psilocybin mushroom (also known as shrooms or magic mushrooms) plants growing in containers, approximately 1.1 pounds of harvested psilocybin mushrooms, approximately 6.2 of harvested marijuana buds, approximately 5.8 ounces of hashish (also known as hash), 93 diazepam (also known as Valium) pills, 45 alprazolam (also known as Xanax) pills, 1 oxycodone pill, approximately 2.8 ounces of salvia divinorum (also known as Diviner’s Sage, Ska Maria Pastora and Seer’s Sage) leaves, approximately 2.5 ounces of synthetic cannabinoids (also known as K2 and Spice), 18 containers of different varieties of marijuana seeds, 20 containers of psilocybin mushroom spores, a triple-beam scale, packaging materials and various growing equipment used to manufacture marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms.
The release said the amount of drugs seized has an estimated street value in excess of $28,000. A 2001 Mazda, $2,194 and various electronic items believed to be the proceeds of drug sales seized under the civil forfeiture laws of the Tennessee Drug Control Act.
